Minutes
The meeting started at 7:00 pm.
Approval of Minutes
The July board minutes were approved.
2004 Banquet Report
Kathy Steyaert recommended that we have the 2004 SAS Banquet at
Latitude 47, for a charge of $30 per person. The Board unanimously
agreed. Kathy is now organizing the reservations and collecting
money.
We still need to find a banquet speaker. All board members should forward names to Stephen and Rick.
Mars Madness
Mike Langley and Bob Suryan reported on Mars Madness at the
UW Observatory. They
estimated that literally 1000s of people were in attendance.
There were several telescopes there, each with lines over 75
people long. The last group got through viewing around 1:45 am.
Mike estimated that there were 15-20 SAS volunteers at the event.
VP Membership Report
Roger Steyaert had several agenda items:
Rattlesnake Lake Permits
We compiled a list of all Rattlesnake Lake permits for the
forest service, but Stephen noted that several of the members
were no longer active. We will update the list so that only
active members are listed.
Ideas for Speakers
Several ideas were floated for speakers for the 2004 Banquet,
but we didn't select any one in particular (Ken Croswell was
one promising option, but he will speak at the November
meeting instead).
Action Item: Rick Libsack will collect ideas for the banquet speaker.
Family Picnic
Earlier in the year we had floated the idea of hosting an SAS
Family Picnic in either August or early September. Given all
of the activities surrounding the Mars opposition, it was
decided to postpone this idea until next year.
