Minutes
The meeting started at 7:00 pm.
Question: is it worth maintaining the library at all? It's not clear
how many members are using the club library, now that so much information is
accessible over the Internet.
We should determine how often the library was used last year. If it is used
a lot, we can look for a new home, otherwise we can dissolve it.
The last hard copy mailed to all members is expected to be in April.
How do we notify members that it is time to renew their membership?
Suggestion: Date all forms, so it is obvious later which are out of
date, and which are not.
8:20 - Meeting Ends
Previous Minutes
The board voted to approve the November 2003 and January 2004 minutes.
Club Librarian
Karl Schroeder is resigning as librarian. There are several crates of books.
Newsletter
We are planning on phasing out the hard copy of the newsletter, in favor
of an electronic newsletter that will be posted on the website.
Action Item: Pam is to investigate a postcard design.
Action Item: Jim will check on bulk postal rates for postcards.
Online Payments
We have been looking for a way to allow members to pay their membership
dues online. Paul has suggested one company he has worked with: Kagi.com.
There may be others. We will investigate online companies that will let
us accept electronic payment with a minimum of administrative overhead.
Dues Structure
As part of the newsletter, we will change to two memberships: those
with a hard copy of the newsletter ($30/year) and those without ($25/year).
We will need to update all membership forms, wherever they appear.
UW Observatory
There will be a rededication of the UW Observatory in May. Should the
club participate or help out? Action Item: Stephen will follow
up with Anna.
