If you would like to join SAS, or are already a member of SAS, and wish to renew your subscription,

 Who can join?

Membership in the Seattle Astronomical Society is open to anyone who enjoys astronomy or who would like to help SAS in sharing the enjoyment of astronomy with others. No experience is necessary! Membership includes:

  • A subscription to the SAS monthly newsletter "The Webfooted Astronomer"
  • Membership in the Astronomical League (the national organization of amateur astronomy) and a subscription to "The Reflector," the quarterly journal of the League. Detailed information about Benefits of SAS Astronomical League Membership can be found here.
  • Members may optionally subscribe to Sky and Telescope and/or Astronomy magazine at discount club rates. See the membership form for details.
  • An on-line e-mail forum (the Webfoot Web) if you want to get late-breaking news and join discussions with other members.
  • Most importantly, membership in the SAS will provide communication, education and a whole lot of fun and good times with others who share your interest in amateur astronomy. We hope to hear from you soon!

SAS runs orientation meetings for beginners and new members.

The next New Member/Beginners Astronomy Meeting will be held at Karl and Judy Schroeder's house. The meeting starts at 1 PM and generally runs till about 5. At that time we have dinner (we provide) and followed by evening observing, weather permitting.

Interested individuals should should contact us in advance so we have some idea of how much food to prepare. Call (206)-362-7605 or Karl Schroeder

Bring a chair, something to drink with dinner, and lots of questions. We will cover telescopes, charts, viewing, planning, star parties, clothing, etc.
