Project ASTRO Wants You!

Project ASTRO is a partnership between school teachers and astronomers-either professional or amateur-whose goal is to introduce astronomy to the classroom at the grade-school level. The school teacher knows how to teach kids and the astronomer knows astronomy.

The astronomer is invited to the classroom four times per year to participate in the teaching process. For the kids, this is their introduction to astronomy and probably, for the first time, science in general.

Woody Sullivan and Karen Peterson of the University of Washington coordinate this effort by matching teachers and astronomers, providing training, and so forth. At the February 17 meeting of the Seattle Astronomical Society (SAS), Woody and Karen will give us an update on how Project ASTRO is doing, and recruit new participants. Several SAS members are already involved, but more are needed.
