Overview

Solar System Ambassador John McLaren will present the work of Dr. Julien Salmon on the leading hypothesis regarding the origin of the Moon. We will see the results from state-of-the-art computer models that allow testing this hypothesis.

The monthly general meeting is as always, Open to the Public. Prior to the General Meeting, SAS volunteer staff offer a welcome table from 7:00PM to 7:30PM. New member and guests are invited to ask questions and meet some of the existing members. All attendees are welcome to stop by, have a cookie, and (if available) make a name tag to help everyone get to know you better. The meeting begins at 7:30pm with SAS business, followed by the lecture.

    In July the SAS will be continuing our celebration of the 50th anaversarry of the Apollo moon landing. The Seattle Astronomical Society's Astrophotography Special Instrest group, lead by Matt Dahl and Jon Minnick, will be discussing and answering questions about photographing the Moon.     Mapping The Moon

    On the way to the Moon landings, early photographic techniques, maps and charts showed humans how to get there and where they might like to walk around. Tom Reese will share images collected by his dad, who helped create them more than 50 years ago, and will invite conversation in the hope of adding to our collective memory.
