Overview

Summer time! Lets look at what the Milky Way has to offer! You will want to stick around until 11pm because that is when it really gets dark.

Experienced astronomer volunteers from the Seattle Astronomical Society (SAS) bring their telescopes and binoculars to share with the public.  Everyone is welcome including families with children.

Check the SAS website < www.seattleastro.org > frequently for stargazing event status.  If weather conditions force cancellation of an event, that news will be posted not later that 4PM the day of the event.

Visit the SAS website for other Puget Sound star gazing events, and for outreach opportunities, meetings and membership information.

It gets chilly at night so dress warm and bring a comfy chair to sit in and a warm drink. If you have your own telescope or binoculars bring it.

More Information

The Milky Way is back along with some great nebulas, so is the summer triangle, there is a lot to look at.

Please take care to maintain dark protocol, we want all observers to enjoy the event.

  • Arrive before dark to set up and park so your headlights are facing away from the telescope field.
  • Computer displays are set to minimum brightness, dark/night/warm mode. If possible place laptops in a box to contain any light. Face display away from visual observers. I also bring a towel to cover the front ofthe box when not looking at the display, this helps keep the box warm and reduce dew.
  • Tablets and phones need to have brightness turned to a minimum with night mode on.
  • Cover all LED indicator lights with a piece of tape, these things can get bright at night.
