Overview

A national park ranger, Jeff Zylland, is putting together a public observing night on Wednesday, August 8 at Sunrise on Mount Rainier, which has the highest altitude reachable by road and very dark skies. Jeff is looking for help from local astronomers. Anyone who is interested and able to help (with or without telescope) should contact Vasuki Seshadri at vasuki@alum.rit.edu and/or Jeff directly at jeffrey zylland@nps.gov Jeff is very knowledgeable about astronomy, but these public viewing nights usually draw a large crowd. He could use some assistance.

    Teachers in Longview school district are running a camp for high school students in Cowlitz County. NASA is funding our camp and it will be a day camp free to students. We are a title 1 district in southern Washington. We are open to whatever ideas you may have to enhance this program and are additionally interested in perhaps a star party component.     Stargazing on the Oxbow Farm

    SAS volunteers with telescopes are sought for a "Stargazing on the Farm" on Friday, August 10, 2019 at the Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center in Carnation, WA. This event will bring to the community an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Farm's land and sky.
