Overview

Title: Vera C Rubin Telescope and DiRAC

Presenting Prof Sarah Greenstreet - Research Scientist, UW.

After “first light” — when the Vera C Rubin Telescope becomes operational in early 2025 — DiRAC scientists will use the data to understand our astronomical history, observe the present and predict the future, tracking and studying everything from protecting ourselves from near-Earth asteroids to the possibility of finding a Planet Nine lurking in the frozen reaches beyond our star.

Sarah Greenstreet is from the Univeristy of Washington Astronomy Department and a research scientist with the DiRAC Institute.

Sarah has PhD in Astronomy from the University of British Columbia and has graciously agreed to share her role with the new telescope and the massive data analysis that will be conducted by DiRAC - Data Intensive Research in Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Washington.

As always, our monthly general meetings are open to both SAS members and the public. We hope to see you online and/or in-person soon!
